DDGM Messages for 2004-2005

…presented at Wilson Lodge No. 113, Waterford, October 13, 2004.

One of the great benefits to Masonry is the opportunity to communicate as equals, within our Lodges, within the District and throughout the World.

Brotherly Love Relief and Truth are the grand principals upon which Masonry is founded, but the practice of these virtues in the modern world requires the concentrated effort of as many Brethren as can be united in a common cause.

The paradox of our time is that we live in a world with taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider highways but narrower viewpoints. We spend more but have less. We buy more but enjoy less. We buy more conveniences but less time. More knowledge less judgment. More experts yet more problems. More medicine but more sickness.

We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom and hate too often.

Theses are the days of fast foods and slow digestion. Big Men and small character. Steep profits but shallow relationships. We live in a throwaway society. Disposable everything. We rush but don't wait.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but the moments that take our breath away!!!!!

So my brethren, we should be eternally grateful for our fraternity and the spirit of communication we promote. The more effectively we communicate the more we validate the excellence of our Fraternity.

Distinctions among men are necessary to reward merit and ability but the sincere Mason should not allow undue deference to excuse a failure to offer his opinion on any topics that arise for discussion among the Brethren. Open and frank communication is the key!
