R. Wor. Bro. Ralph David (RD) Charter

R. W. Bro. Charter was born in 1920 and grew up in Coronation Alberta. He attended the Elementary and Secondary School there. After leaving School he worked with his father on the farm in Alberta. In 1938 the family moved to Boston Ontario. Ralph joined the Canadian Army in 1941, was trained in Brantford and Camp Borden. Following training he was sent to London Ontario. In 1942 he married Margaret McRae .He was sent overseas and his daughter Aliceann was born while he was away and he didn = t see her until a couple of years later when he returned to Canada. Later a son David was born to the family.

After his army service he worked at the Hagersville Boiler Room and Fire Department, before working for the County of Norfolk and farming. The last 16 years before retiring in 1977, he worked for the Department of Transport.

He was initiated into Wilson Lodge No. 113 on Oct. 13, 1954, passed on Nov. 10, 1954 and raised on Dec. 8, 1954. He was master of Wilson Lodge No. 113 1964-65. Ralph was District Deputy Grand Master for Brant Masonic District 1982-83. On Oct. 26, 2005 he was presented with his 50 year pin the same night W. Bro. Alfred Langs was presented with his 50 year Past Master pin. For many years he has been active in his Lodge and has been Director of Ceremonies numerous times. Ralph has been on the Board of General Purposes and is still Chairman of Blood Donors for his Lodge. He is a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason.

He is a member of Bealton United Church where he has been Chairman of the Church Council and Chairman of the Trustees.

In his spare time our brother is a hobby farmer and over the years has grown many crops including tomatoes and cucumbers. He talks about raising more than 35 bushels of tomatoes in his garden and processing them. He has also raised pigs and chickens over the years.

He and Margaret during their retirement used to trailer all over the US and Canada but they never made it to Newfoundland. Every five years they returned to Coronation Alberta for the School reunion.

Locally besides masonry, Ralph is a member of Waterford Legion, Simcoe Army & Navy Club and the Foresters in Boston.
